The New Normal

Bio

Zach Bedell and Tim Tracy began writing music together in 2003 when they met in high school in rural Virginia. Tracy's harmonically intricate composition and penchant for dissonance proved a perfect contrast to Bedell's nuanced and accessible approach to lyrics, influenced by songwriters like Paul Simon and Radiohead's Thom Yorke. The duo released numerous EPs and one full-length record under various band names before recruiting drummer Craig South in Charleston, SC in 2009. Since the trio formed, The New Normal have explored styles which place them just as comfortably in an acoustic singer-songwriter environment as it does full band sets, which often trace back to their roots in groove-heavy funk. In a full band setting, the power trio channels the in-your-face rhythm section of 90's alt-rock band Primus and an unique, catchy melodic vocal style a la Alabama Shakes. Stay tuned for more releases and show dates as the band endeavors to push the boundaries of their creative aspirations.
